Important rules to remember = 1. LISTEN 2. Raise hand to speak 3. Keep hands to yourself!

In Reading Class we are reading some great stories. Our stories are about helping our Earth and community!! Continue to practice rhyming with your child. Each letter of the alphabet has a capital and a lowercase partner.  Make sure your child knows the name of each capital letter and lowercase letter.  Start by showing the two partner letters together.  Then, show them seperately.  Make sure your kiddo can name each letter and then find the partner.  This is so important.

We have learned the sound of each letter.  Practice the letters/sounds of these letters at the beginning of a word and at the end of a word. Practice printing these  letters (capital and lowercase).  Aa, Ii, Oo, Ee, & Uu are vowels and can come at the beginning of words, but are usually in the middle of words. We have learned all five short vowel sounds( a, i, o, e, & u). We can make many words with these five vowels.  See the Spelling Words Page on this Website! We are learning long vowel words with silent magic e at the end!  Long vowel words have two vowels in them.  The magic silent e at the end of the word make the a say its own name!

We are trying very hard to remember to write at the top of a page and move from left to right.  Remind us of that too when we do homework or are practicing skills.

In Math Class we are discussing 2D and 3D shapes.  We are looking for shapes in our everyday lives.  A papertowel tube is a cylinder. A tissue box is a rectangular prism. We have finished learning about Money and Time to the hour and half hour!   Please help us at home. The kids did really well with adding and subtracting to and from 10. The K kids have mastered sorting, graphing, and patterning!  They are good at counting, identifying, and writing numbers 0-20! Keep practicing those teen numbers - they are hard for kindergrateners! Practice counting by 2, 5, & 10! This will help us count and write the numbers to 100.

In Religion class we are learning that Jesus was a kind and caring teacher. He wants us to be kind and loving to others too.  We are in the Easter season. We are remebering all that Jesus has taught us and we are trying to live it! We learn Jesus! Love Jesus! Live Jesus!

Please help your child learn the words and motions to The Sign of the Cross.  We are currently saying Grace Before Meals, Grace After Meals, The Hail Mary, The Angel of God, The Our Father and The Glory Be daily.  The words came home in a little booklet.

We attend Mass every Friday at 8AM.  Please have your child here at SPS on time so I can get their lunch order in to the cafeteria before Mass.  Going to Mass on Sundays will help your kindergartener understand the parts of the Mass better and help him or her participate more too!

WEDNESDAY is our GYM day! Wear tennis shoes and socks with your St. Philip tee shirt and shorts.

The kids come to school in these clothes and stay in them all day long - no changing involved!!

Oct 1 - April 30 is when the kids have to wear sweatpants. No more shorts. August, September, May

& June are months to wear shorts all day.

TUESDAY is LIBRARY day! Mrs. Davis will be allowing the kindergarteners to take out a book

for the week to read at home. She recommends storing it in the book bag and she will collect it

every Tuesday before a new book can be taken out. Happy Reading!

    *****************************************************************************

Technology is in full swing in kindergarten. We will use Bee Bots,

our Smart Baord, iPads, and the OSMO. SPS is so awesome to have

    this great tech stuff!

All K2 kids will be "Student of the Week" one time this year. We will learn all about

your child during his/her special week. Your student will have special jobs and seats

during his or her 5 day week. Your student will get to bring something in for a Show

and Tell Day at the end of their week. More information will come about this special

St. Philip School encourages our children to follow The A.N.G.E.L. Way (Acquiring Natural Goodness in Everyday Life). Our children will get to know Jesus and our Catholic Faith. We will learn prayers, songs, and participate in many activities that will make us feel closer to God. Our fourth virtue is Stewardship. We need to be good stewards
of the Earth that God has given us. We need to keep His Earth clean. Keep our
lands and waters clean of garbage. Recycle when you can. Treat God's creatures
(animals and humans) kindly. Just remember GOD in ALL YOU DO!
